The novel became a cult hi Bernard Werber’s “Ants” trilogy made him one of France’s most popular science fiction novelists in the 90s. I eerber this book to people who is interested in scientific fiction novels.

Slightly too long in my opinion though. Werber’s depiction of society is painfully simplified, as if narrated by an egoistic child unable to imagine a point of view different than its own. The story ends when there they see something behind the “mountain of light” and get astonished by it.

I read Polish translation. It had to take a lot of work to make the subject of death so dry and uninspiring. Perpetually fascinating subject of death, the sixties and finally action not set in the USA! I’m now luckily learning Korean and bought a used Korean copy can’t wait to devour it. No trivia or quizzes yet. I work in the bookshop and I know that Werber like a people a lot. It merely goes with the tide, not living, but semivegetating.

I would like to be friends with one of the scientist, Michel, the main character, because he is very smart and interested in weird topics such as death.

And yet, all this talk about death felt so bland and uninspired. So, I don’t think it’s a bad book, it’s just not for me.
